Outriders People Can Fly Despite a month long demo, launch day here for Outriders could be going a little more smoothly. While it’s easy to play at least the very extensive base campaign solo, Outriders is still an always-online game, and its servers have been going down intermittently with a reported fix on the way. I hadn’t been disconnected from servers all day until just now, but others have been enduring disconnects for a while, often in the middle of lengthy enemy encounters or boss fights that get reset. Others have been dealing with the “eternal Signed In” issue at the start screen that has been present in some form for most of the beta. While the server issues may get worse before they get better with people coming home from work or school to play on launch day, the PC version of the game seems to be having a variety of issues on top of that. Some players are reporting a stuttering that was not there during the demo. Others are reporting that the game is crashing frequently. And still others are experiencing so many crashes that they literally cannot play the game at all: Outriders seems to think rolling back NVIDIA drivers may solve stuttering issues if you want to take that rather dramatic step, but so far there’s no other suggested fix. I have not seen any info about the crashing problems past the above. It’s not uncommon for a live service game to have launch issues, everyone remembers the infamous Diablo 3 Error 37, but it’s a little bit more frustrating in Outrider’s case, given that almost everyone is probably going to be booting up the campaign solo to start, but the entire game has to be built based on an online ecosystem to support co-op play with no offline mode. This is, of course, not uncommon in the genre, be it The Division, Avengers or Destiny. And yet Outriders claims to not be a “live service” game only have extended to the type of content it’s releasing, not the fact that the game is not “live” overall, which it most definitely is. The PC issues are something else altogether, and I know at least a few people that have already requested refunds for their copy if they can’t get it to work. Perhaps they will return once these issues are fixed, but you only get once chance to make a first impression. Check back here where I will post updates as they come in.
